The book has a running factual timeline layered with the memories from Swaran’s past. Each decade reflects a graphic style relevant from that time.
From WWII and the Partition of India-Pakistan to Army life in the 70s, the book travels across Europe, India and Pakistan and is flecked with beautiful snippets from the life and times of the couple
Swaran was 9 years old when she found a poem written in Urdu by her mother long after she was gone. Written in Urdu, the poem said that “I will die, another will come, and you will love her more than me”. Swaran remembers it to this day, she was raised by her step mother, Tara Kohli.
